United Provision Meat Company was founded in 1939 by the famous entertainer, Bob Hope and his brother, Fred Hope. United processed beef, pork, lamb, veal and poultry and later became a cook facility as well. The Hopes diligently ran United successfully through 1980 when John Mullins purchased it.  John was considered the absolute best meat salesman ever, however, as a result of some overwhelming personal losses in John's life, he lost interest in United and its customers dwindled down to just four.  In 1993, I purchased United from John and with a little effort, United's customers and sales doubled every year for many years.

10 years ago I purchased the old landmark Richard's Carryout at 1117 Oak Street which was just 10 inches away from United's building.  My hope was to change Richard's Carryout into a meat and seafood store with groceries.  After 8 long years I finally had the opportunity to make the change.  Today, Oak Street Meat & Seafood offers over 2,100 different meat and seafood items to its customers.  As a bonus, Oak Street Meat & Seafood caught the attention of The Near East Side Cooperative Market which has moved into the front of the store and sells fresh fruits, local vegetables, dairy and baked goods.

In early October 2013, I decided to give back further to the community and open United up as a food incubator, food cart and food truck commissary. I partnered up with Katy Macke and we decided to call it The Columbus Food Hub. The Columbus Food Hub has up to 20 food cart/truck parking spaces, offers a full kitchen, cooler space, freezer space, further meat and seafood processing, further cooked meat processing, grinding, tenderizing, bandsawing, packaging, business consulting and free meat cutting demonstrations. We're very exciting about this and are open for business.
